Cusco to Lake Titicaca in 5 Days, with an Andean Ceremony
The trip in one paragraph
This is the shortest trip that joins Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca, and it suits travelers who already have Cusco on their plan and want the lake with a community ceremony instead of a standard boat day. It moves fast: three days in the Cusco region, a night bus, two days on the water. If you have more time, the 10-day version takes the daytime bus to Puno and adds a farming day with a Sacred Valley community.
The Cusco half
A city tour on arrival, a long day through Chinchero, Moray, the Maras salt pans and Ollantaytambo, the train to Aguas Calientes and a guided morning inside Machu Picchu on Circuit 2. After the train back you board the night bus and wake up in Puno at about 5 a.m.
The lake half
A boat takes you to Llachón on the Capachica peninsula for the ceremony the program is named after: a water blessing and an offering to the earth and the lake, led by a ceremony leader from the community. It is a cultural experience, open to anyone, with no beliefs asked of you. The afternoon is on Amantaní, a farming island where you climb to the Pachatata hilltop for a thanksgiving offering and sleep in a family's house. On day five you stop at the Uros reed islands on the way back to Puno.
What it costs you in comfort
The night bus saves a day but costs sleep, and Amantaní has simple rooms and cold nights. Pack a warm layer for the boat and the homestay.
Choose your comfort level
Prices are per person in a double room and include everything listed above. The tiers change only the hotels in Cusco and Aguas Calientes: Essential from US$917 with 3-star hotels, Comfort Plus at US$985 with 4-star premium hotels and Signature at US$1,430 with 5-star hotels. The night bus, the Amantaní homestay and the ceremonies are the same in every tier.
Pick your arrival date
Pick the day you land in Cusco and send the free quote form. We check Machu Picchu tickets, trains and the community's calendar, and confirm within the day.
For June to August, book 30 to 45 days ahead because Machu Picchu Circuit 2 and the trains sell out first. If the community has its own festivities on your dates, we tell you and move the ceremony day.

"I came to this agency by recommendation and, after traveling with them on two occasions, I can say that it was an excellent decision. I must highlight the professionalism of the guides, who made every tour very interesting and safe."
Still have questions?
Everything we get asked about this package before people book.
What happens in an Aymara offering ceremony?
A ceremony leader lays out an offering on a cloth, usually coca leaves, grains and sweets, and asks the earth and the water for health and safe travel. On this trip it is joined to a blessing with lake water. You are handed coca leaves to add, and the offering is burned or placed at the end. It takes about an hour.
Who leads the ceremony?
At Llachón, a ceremony leader from the host community, and on Amantaní a local leader at the Pachatata hilltop. They speak their own language and Spanish, and our guide translates into English. The communities are paid a fixed amount for each ceremony, included in your price.
Is it respectful for visitors to take part?
Yes, when it happens at the community's invitation, with a fair payment and with visitors following the leader's lead. It is not a show and not a religious conversion. You do not need to share any belief. Stay quiet during the prayers and ask before taking photos.
Is the ceremony really Aymara?
The program uses the name Aymara baptism. The families of Llachón and Amantaní speak Quechua, while many communities on the southern shore speak Aymara. Both peoples make similar offerings, and our guide explains who you are with on the day.
Is 5 days enough for Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca?
It is the minimum, and the overnight bus is what makes it fit. If you can add days, do it before Puno, not after: a slower start in Cusco makes the altitude on the lake much easier.
Are flights included?
No. The price covers everything from your arrival at Cusco airport to the drop-off at Juliaca airport. Flights can go on the same quote.
