The trip in one paragraph

This walk is for your first afternoon or morning in Cusco, when you want to see the city without a van and without climbing anything big. It suits curious walkers, food lovers and budget travelers. If you want the major Inca sites with entries included, book the Cusco city tour instead. Many travelers do both.

The route

You start at the San Pedro market, the city's main food market, among juice stalls, bread towers, cheese and dried potatoes. From the Plaza de Armas you walk along Hatun Rumiyoc street to the 12-angled stone, a single block cut to lock with its neighbors on twelve sides. Then the lanes climb into San Blas, the artisans' quarter, past workshops and Siete Borreguitos street, to the colonial Sapantiana aqueduct and the San Cristobal viewpoint over the red roofs.

What to expect

The walking is slow and short, with stops every few minutes, but San Blas is steep. At 11,150 ft (3,400 m) you will breathe hard on the stairs, which is normal on day one. Food at the market and the Qorikancha entrance are not in the price, so bring soles.

Price

Still have questions?

Everything we get asked about this package before people book.

What do you see on a Cusco walking tour?

The San Pedro market, the Plaza de Armas, the 12-angled stone on Hatun Rumiyoc street, the San Blas artisans' quarter with Siete Borreguitos street, the Sapantiana aqueduct and the San Cristobal viewpoint. It is the old town on foot, with the stories behind each corner from a bilingual guide.

Is Qorikancha entry included?

No. The walking tour passes through the old town but does not go inside Qorikancha, which has its own ticket. If you want the Sun Temple with the entry included, the Cusco city tour covers it along with Sacsayhuaman and three other Inca sites.

Is this a food tour?

Not quite. The walk starts in the San Pedro market and your guide explains the fruit, breads, cheeses and potatoes on sale, but tastings are not included. Buy what you want at the stalls, with soles in cash.

Is the walking tour hard at altitude?

No, but San Blas is steep. The pace is slow, with frequent stops, and the whole walk stays inside the city. Drink water, take the stairs at your own speed and tell your guide if you feel dizzy. It is a good first-day activity.

Where does the walking tour start?

At the San Pedro market in the historic center. We send the exact meeting point and time when we confirm your booking, so you can walk there from your hotel.
