"Incredible experience!! Beautiful landscape and beautiful people. We were lucky to be guided by Vladimir, who with his lovely personality and amazing knowledge made this trip a great learning experience."
Machu Picchu & Maras, Moray by ATV 2 Days
The trip in one paragraph
Day one swaps the tour bus for a four-wheeler. You ride dirt tracks across the farmland of the Maras plateau, stop at the sunken terraces of Moray and the salt pans of Maras, then drop to Ollantaytambo for the train to Aguas Calientes. Day two is Machu Picchu with a licensed guide. It is the cheapest of our 2-day Machu Picchu packages, and the one people remember for the dust on their jeans.
Who should book the ATV version
Book it if you are comfortable on a quad at modest speeds and want a morning outdoors instead of a van. Skip it if you have back problems, are pregnant, or would rather hear a long site explanation than ride. Those travelers do better on the Moray, Maras and Chinchero tour by van, which covers the same sites at a calmer pace.
Day 1 on the quad
Pickup at 6:30 a.m., a safety briefing and a practice loop, then the ride. The plateau sits around 11,000 to 12,000 ft (3,400 to 3,700 m) with the snow peaks of the Urubamba range in front of you. After Maras you leave the quads and head to Ollantaytambo station.
Day 2 Machu Picchu
Bus up after breakfast, two to three hours on Circuit 2 with your guide, lunch in town, then the Vistadome to Ollantaytambo and the van back to Cusco.
Price
One price: US$527 per person, shared service, with a 3-star hotel in Aguas Calientes. Ask for a higher hotel category, a single room or a passenger seat and we add the difference to your quote.
Pick your arrival date
Pick the day you start in Cusco. The tour runs every day the railway and the site are open.
Send the free quote form with your date, passport details and how many quads you need. We confirm tickets, trains and the ATV slot and reply with what is available. For June to August, book 30 to 45 days ahead.

Day1
Cusco, Moray, Maras, Ollantaytambo, Aguas Calientes
Night in Aguas Calientes at 6,690 ft (2,040 m), high point 12,340 ft (3,762 m) on the plateau
Have breakfast at your hotel first. Pack one small bag for the night, since the train limits luggage, and wear closed shoes and long pants.
Helmet, a briefing in English and a practice loop before you head out. The guide rides in front and sets the pace.
Park at the rim and walk the terraces. The rings drop about 100 ft (30 m), and the guide explains why the Incas may have used them to test crops.
The last stretch on the quads ends above the salt pans. Walk the edge of the pools, buy salt at the stalls, then hand back the ATVs.
Expedition class, about 1 hour 40 minutes to Aguas Calientes. Our team meets you on arrival and walks you to the hotel. The evening is free.

Day2
Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo, Cusco
Back in Cusco for the night (hotel not included), high point 7,970 ft (2,430 m) at Machu Picchu

Two to three hours past the upper viewpoint, the temples and the main plaza. With a Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain ticket, you climb after the tour.
Not included. Collect your bag at the hotel.

Still have questions?
Everything we get asked about this package before people book.
Do I need a license to ride the ATV in Cusco?
No motorcycle license is needed for this ride. You do need to be an adult to drive, follow the briefing and complete the practice loop. The guide can stop anyone who is not in control of the quad, so be honest about your experience.
Can two people share one quad bike?
Yes, a passenger can ride behind the driver on most of the quads. Tell us in the quote form, because a shared quad changes the price per person.
How long is the ATV ride to Moray and Maras?
Plan on about two hours of riding with stops, inside a morning of roughly four hours from the start of the briefing to handing back the quads. The pace is moderate on dirt farm roads.
Is the ATV ride dangerous?
It is a guided ride at moderate speed on farm roads, not off-road racing. Most incidents come from riders going faster than the group. Wear the helmet, keep your distance and follow the guide's line.
Is the Machu Picchu ticket included?
Yes, Circuit 2 in your passport name, plus the Consettur bus. Our guide on Machu Picchu tickets explains slots and passport rules.
What should I wear for the quad?
Long pants, closed shoes, sunglasses and a layer you can zip up against the wind. A scarf or buff keeps the dust out of your mouth.
How far ahead should I book?
For June to August, 30 to 45 days ahead. Other months, two to three weeks is usually enough.

- How to Get to Machu Picchu from Cusco and LimaFly Lima to Cusco in about 1 hour 20 minutes, drive 1.5 to 2 hours to Ollantaytambo, ride the train 1.5 to 2 hours to Aguas Calientes, then take the Consettur bus 25 to 30 minutes to the gate. No road reaches Machu Picchu. The alternatives are treks or the Hidroeléctrica walk.
- Best Time to Visit Machu Picchu, Month by MonthThe best months to visit Machu Picchu are May and September: dry mornings, green terraces and fewer people than June to August. The driest months are June to August, also the busiest. January to March bring about 13 in (340 mm) of rain a month and the Inca Trail closes every February. The sun clears the ridges well after the gate opens.
- Hiram Bingham Train: What You Get for the PriceThe Hiram Bingham is Belmond's luxury train to Machu Picchu. It leaves Poroy, near Cusco, at 9:05 a.m. and the fare covers brunch, dinner, drinks, the bus to the citadel, a guide and tea at the Sanctuary Lodge. Fares start around US$500 each way (as of June 2026). Book it for the day out, since every train shares the same view.
