The trip in one paragraph

This short trip is for travelers who enjoy art, photography and Andean symbolism, and who have half a day free in Cusco. Be clear on one point before you book: the sculptures are modern. They are not Inca ruins. If you want real Inca sites, book the Cusco city tour instead.

The carvings and the artist

Apukunaq Tianan, Quechua for the seat or home of the mountain spirits, is a hillside of large figures carved directly into the rock by the Cusco sculptor Michael de Titán. The figures include the Apu or mountain spirit, Pachamama (Mother Earth), a puma, a figure called the Lord of Time and a great face of the Andes. The site is on privately owned land in the community of Sencca, in the Poroy district, on the high ground northwest of the city.

How the visit works

Pickup at 9:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. The drive up takes about 40 minutes. Your guide explains the Andean ideas behind each figure and leaves you time to walk the trails and take photos. The entrance is paid on site. It is an easy half day at about 12,470 ft (3,800 m).

Still have questions?

Everything we get asked about this package before people book.

Are the Home of the Gods sculptures ancient?

No. They are modern carvings by the Cusco sculptor Michael de Titán, made on privately owned land above the city. They depict Andean deities and symbols, and they are not Inca. If you want Inca sites, the Cusco city tour covers Qorikancha and Sacsayhuaman.

Is the entrance included?

No. Apukunaq Tianan charges its own entrance, paid on site in cash. The price of the tour covers transport and the guide. The site is not on the Cusco Tourist Ticket.

How far is the Home of the Gods from Cusco?

About 40 minutes by road, up to the community of Sencca in the Poroy district, on the high ground northwest of the city. That makes it an easy half day, with departures at 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

What does Apukunaq Tianan mean?

In Quechua it means the seat or dwelling of the Apus, the spirits of the mountains in Andean belief. The English name, Home of the Gods, follows the Spanish name Morada de los Dioses.

Is the Home of the Gods worth visiting?

If you like sculpture and photography, yes, as an extra half day. If your time in Cusco is short, put the city tour, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu first. This trip shows modern Andean art, not history.
