Aymara Ceremony Tour: Lima, Cusco and Lake Titicaca in 10 Days
The trip in one paragraph
Of the four ceremony trips, this is the one we recommend for most first-time visitors. It has the same Lima, Cusco and lake days as the 8-day version, plus two changes that matter: a day working alongside a farming community near Cusco, and the daytime tourist bus to Puno instead of the night bus. You arrive on the lake rested and better adjusted to the altitude. If you also want Rainbow Mountain, look at the 12-day complete version.
Lima and Cusco
A Lima city tour on arrival, the long coastal day to the Ballestas Islands and Huacachina, then the flight to Cusco, a city tour, a Sacred Valley day with the train to Aguas Calientes and a guided morning at Machu Picchu. You sleep in Cusco after the train back.
A day with a farming community
On day six, families in a Sacred Valley community welcome you with a short offering of thanks, then put you to work: harvesting grains in season, building a huatia earth oven to cook potatoes, making adobe bricks with a local builder. Lunch is what comes out of the oven.
The road and the lake
Day seven is nine hours on the Sun Route to Puno, with stops at the painted church of Andahuaylillas, the Inca temple of Raqchi and the La Raya pass at 14,222 ft (4,335 m). Then two days on the water: a water blessing and offering led by a ceremony leader at Llachón, which the program calls the Aymara baptism, a night with a family on Amantaní and the Uros reed islands on the way back.
Choose your comfort level
Prices are per person in a double room. The tiers change only the hotels: Essential from US$1,347 with 3-star hotels, Comfort Plus at US$1,650 with 4-star premium hotels and Signature at US$2,415 with 5-star hotels. The homestay, the community day and the ceremonies are the same in every tier.
Pick your arrival date
Pick the day you land in Lima and send the free quote form. We check Machu Picchu tickets, trains and both communities' calendars, and confirm within the day.
For June to August, book 30 to 45 days ahead. If a community has its own festivities on your dates, we move the activity and tell you.

Still have questions?
Everything we get asked about this package before people book.
What happens in an Aymara offering ceremony?
A ceremony leader arranges coca leaves, grains and sweets on a cloth and asks the earth and the lake for health and safe travel. On this trip it comes with a blessing with lake water. You add leaves when invited, and the offering is burned or placed at the end. It lasts about an hour.
Who leads the ceremony?
A ceremony leader from the host community at Llachón on the Capachica peninsula, and a local leader on Amantaní's Pachatata hill. Our guide translates from their language and Spanish into English. Each community receives a fixed payment per ceremony, included in your price.
Is it respectful for visitors to take part?
Yes, when the community invites you, is paid fairly and leads the ceremony its own way. It is not a show and not a conversion, and you need no belief to join. Keep quiet during the prayers and ask before taking photos.
Is the ceremony really Aymara?
The program uses the name Aymara baptism. The families of Llachón and Amantaní speak Quechua, while many communities on the southern shore speak Aymara. Both make similar offerings, and the guide explains whose ceremony you join.
Why choose 10 days over 8?
Two reasons: the daytime Sun Route replaces the night bus to Puno, and the community day gives Cusco an extra night. You arrive in Puno with more sleep and more days at altitude behind you, for US$250 more on the Essential tier.
Are the domestic flights included?
No. The flights from Lima to Cusco and from Juliaca to Lima are quoted separately with your dates. Every airport transfer is included.

- The Aymara of Lake Titicaca: Language, Land and Life TodayThe Aymara are an Andean people of about 2 million, most of them on the high plateau around Lake Titicaca in Bolivia and Peru, with smaller communities in Chile and Argentina.
