Aymara Ceremony Tour, Complete: Peru in 12 Days with Rainbow Mountain
The trip in one paragraph
This is the longest of the ceremony trips and the one for travelers with almost two weeks who want Peru's big sights and time with the people who live along the way. It keeps everything in the 10-day version and adds two Cusco days: a half-day loop to modern rock sculptures and a community wetland, and a full day to Rainbow Mountain. If Rainbow Mountain does not appeal, the 10-day version saves you two days and the hardest climb.
How the days build
Lima and a day on the coast, then Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. Day six is with a farming community near Cusco: field work, a huatia earth oven and an adobe workshop. Day seven visits Apukunaq Tianan, large figures of Andean spirits carved into the rock by a contemporary Cusco sculptor, and the Huasao wetland, restored by its community. Day eight is Vinicunca, the Rainbow Mountain, at 16,522 ft (5,036 m). By then you have spent five nights at Cusco's altitude, which is the right order.
The lake
The Sun Route takes you to Puno by day. At Llachón, on the Capachica peninsula, a ceremony leader from the community blesses you with lake water and makes an offering of coca leaves, the ceremony the program calls the Aymara baptism. You sleep with a family on Amantaní, stop at the Uros reed islands and end with a free day in Puno.
What to know first
Rainbow Mountain is a steep walk at very high altitude. If you have heart or lung conditions, talk to your doctor before you book this version.
Choose your comfort level
Prices are per person in a double room. The tiers change only the hotels: Essential from US$1,377 with 3-star hotels, Comfort Plus at US$1,775 with 4-star premium hotels and Signature at US$2,720 with 5-star hotels. The homestay, the community day and the ceremonies are the same in every tier.
Pick your arrival date
Pick the day you land in Lima and send the free quote form. We check Machu Picchu tickets, trains and both communities' calendars, and confirm within the day.
For June to August, book 30 to 45 days ahead. From January to March, rain and snow sometimes cover the Rainbow Mountain stripes. If a community has its own festivities on your dates, we move the activity and tell you.

Travelers on this itinerary
Sacred Lake Titikaka is new; these are public Tripadvisor reviews of Viajes Cusco Perú, the family agency that operates every package on this site.
Reviews shown: Viajes Cusco Perú travelers (sample of public Tripadvisor reviews, read Sep 30, 2026).
"All the tours I did (Machu, Humantay Lake, Rainbow Mountain, Sacred Valley) were spectacular!!! From picking me up at the hotel (always punctual and attentive, notifying about everything!) to the guides I had who were also excellent."
"I came to this agency by recommendation and, after traveling with them on two occasions, I can say that it was an excellent decision. I must highlight the professionalism of the guides, who made every tour very interesting and safe."
Still have questions?
Everything we get asked about this package before people book.
What happens in an Aymara offering ceremony?
A ceremony leader arranges coca leaves, grains and sweets on a cloth and asks the earth and the lake for health and safe travel. On this trip it comes with a blessing with lake water. You add leaves when invited, and the offering is burned or placed at the end. It lasts about an hour.
Who leads the ceremony?
At Llachón, a leader from the host community, and a local leader on Amantaní's Pachatata hill. Our guide translates into English. Each community receives a fixed payment per ceremony, included in your price.
Is it respectful for visitors to take part?
Yes, when the community invites you, is paid fairly and leads the ceremony its own way. It is not a show and not a conversion, and you need no belief to join. Keep quiet during the prayers and ask before taking photos.
Is the ceremony really Aymara?
The program uses the name Aymara baptism. The families of Llachón and Amantaní speak Quechua, while many communities on the southern shore speak Aymara. Both make similar offerings, and the guide explains whose ceremony you join.
Are the Home of the Gods sculptures ancient?
No. Apukunaq Tianan is contemporary work, cut into the hillside by a living Cusco artist. They show Andean spirits and animals and are worth seeing as modern art. The Inca sites on this trip are Qorikancha, Sacsayhuaman, Ollantaytambo, Machu Picchu and Raqchi.
Is 12 days the right length for this trip?
Yes, if you want Rainbow Mountain. The extra days in Cusco come before the hike on purpose, so you climb to 16,522 ft (5,036 m) after five nights at altitude. Without Rainbow Mountain, the 10-day version is the better buy.
