Aymara Ceremony Tour: Lima, Cusco and Lake Titicaca in 8 Days
The trip in one paragraph
This is the trip for a first visit to Peru that lands in Lima, wants a day on the coast and ends on Lake Titicaca with a community ceremony. It covers the main sights at a brisk pace and finishes with a free day in Puno. If you are flying straight into Cusco, the 5-day version covers the same Cusco and lake days without the coast.
Coast first, then the Andes
Day one is the Lima city tour. Day two is the long coastal day to the Ballestas Islands and the Huacachina dunes, back in Lima late at night. Then you fly to Cusco for a city tour, a Sacred Valley day with the train to Aguas Calientes and a guided morning at Machu Picchu. The night bus takes you to Puno.
Two days on the lake
At Llachón, on the Capachica peninsula, a ceremony leader from the community blesses you with lake water and makes an offering of coca leaves to the earth and the lake. The program calls it the Aymara baptism. It is a cultural ceremony, open to anyone, with no belief asked of you. You sleep with a family on Amantaní after a thanksgiving offering on the Pachatata hilltop, and the next day you visit the Uros reed islands and a water celebration with music and dance before a night in a Puno hotel.
Our honest advice
Day two is about 17 hours long and the flight to Cusco is the next morning. If you can add a night in Lima, do it. The rest of the trip flows well.
Choose your comfort level
Prices are per person in a double room. The tiers change only the hotels: Essential from US$1,097 with 3-star hotels, Comfort Plus at US$1,416 with 4-star premium hotels and Signature at US$2,014 with 5-star hotels. The night bus, the Amantaní homestay and the ceremonies are the same in every tier.
Pick your arrival date
Pick the day you land in Lima and send the free quote form. We check Machu Picchu tickets, trains and the community's calendar, and confirm within the day.
For June to August, book 30 to 45 days ahead, because Machu Picchu Circuit 2 and the trains sell out first. If the community has its own festivities on your dates, we move the ceremony day and tell you.

Still have questions?
Everything we get asked about this package before people book.
What happens in an Aymara offering ceremony?
A ceremony leader arranges an offering of coca leaves, grains and sweets on a cloth and asks the earth and the lake for health and safe travel. On this trip it comes with a blessing with lake water. You add coca leaves when invited, and the offering is burned or placed at the end. It takes about an hour.
Who leads the ceremony?
A ceremony leader from the host community at Llachón, and a local leader on the Pachatata hilltop of Amantaní. They speak their own language and Spanish, and our guide translates. Each ceremony is paid to the community at a fixed rate, included in your price.
Is it respectful for visitors to take part?
Yes, when the community invites you, is paid fairly and leads the ceremony its own way. It is not a show and not a conversion, and you need no belief to join. Stay quiet during the prayers and ask before taking photos.
Is the ceremony really Aymara?
The program carries the name Aymara baptism. The families of Llachón and Amantaní speak Quechua, and many communities on the southern shore of the lake speak Aymara. Both make similar offerings, and the guide explains whose ceremony you are joining.
Are the domestic flights included?
No. The flights from Lima to Cusco and from Juliaca back to Lima are quoted separately with your dates. Transfers to and from every airport are included.
Is 8 days enough for Lima, Cusco and Lake Titicaca?
Enough to see the main sights, with little slack. The long coastal day and the night bus are the tight spots. With two more days, the 10-day version swaps the night bus for the daytime route and adds a farming day with a community.
