Six Peru vacation packages, from 6 days in Lima and Cusco at US$880 to the 15-day circuit through Arequipa, the Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca and Machu Picchu at US$2,084. All six start in Lima, include hotels with breakfast, every entrance ticket, the trains, the guides and the transfers, and leave the flights to you. We tell you which Lima to Cusco flight to book and we meet it.
If you have never been to Peru and have about ten days, book the 10-day Lima, Cusco and Lake Titicaca package. It is the one trip in this group that covers the coast, the Andes and the lake, and the altitude climbs in the right order. With a week, take the 7-day version with the Nazca Lines flight. With two weeks and a taste for long drives, the 15-day route adds Arequipa and the Colca Canyon, where condors ride the thermals most mornings.
The table below shows all six with the days, the regions covered, the highest point and the Essential-tier price. Every package in this group is graded easy to moderate: the walking is a few hours a day on terraces and city streets, and the one steep hike (Rainbow Mountain, from 9 days up) swaps for a rest day if you ask.

Six days: Lima, one coastal day to Paracas and Huacachina, then Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. Seven days: the same plus the Nazca Lines from the air. Eight days: Lima and a fuller Cusco with Rainbow Mountain. Nine and ten days: everything above plus Puno and a boat day to the Uros islands and Taquile. Fifteen days: Lima, Paracas, Nazca, Arequipa, the Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain and Humantay, in that order.
The order of the cities is the design. Days one to three stay at sea level in Lima and on the coast. Then you fly to Cusco at 3,400 m (11,150 ft) and the first afternoon is a slow city tour. Machu Picchu, at 2,430 m (7,970 ft), comes on the third Cusco day, and Puno, at about 3,830 m (12,560 ft), only after Cusco. The 15-day route goes through Arequipa at 2,335 m (7,661 ft) and the Colca pass at 4,910 m (16,109 ft) before Puno, which is the gentlest climb of all. Travelers over 65 and families with children from about eight do these packages well.
Essential tier, with 3-star hotels: US$880 for 6 days, US$900 for 7, US$1,190 for 8, US$1,660 for 9, US$1,720 for 10 and US$2,084 for 15. Comfort and Comfort Plus (4-star and 4-star premium) add US$90 to US$870 depending on the length. Signature (5-star) runs US$2,050 to US$4,391. The itinerary, the guides and the trains are the same in every tier. What you buy with the upgrade is the room, the breakfast and the location.
Included on all six: hotels with breakfast, airport and station transfers, the guided city tours in Lima and Cusco, the Sacred Valley day, the Machu Picchu ticket on Circuit 2, the round-trip train to Aguas Calientes, the Consettur bus, and on the lake packages the boat to the Uros and Taquile with lunch on the island. The 7-day and longer coast routes include the Ballestas Islands boat and the Huacachina dune buggy, and the Nazca overflight where the itinerary names it.
Not included, on purpose: international flights, the domestic flights between Lima and Cusco (and Lima to Juliaca or Arequipa on the routes that need them), the Nazca airport tax, dinners, travel insurance, tips and the optional Huayna Picchu ticket. We quote the domestic flights for you if you want them bought together, but they are never hidden inside the package price.
Essential puts you in 3-star hotels near the Plaza de Armas in Cusco, in Miraflores in Lima and on the lakefront in Puno. Comfort and Comfort Plus move you to 4-star properties, often converted colonial houses in Cusco with heating in the rooms. Signature is 5-star throughout. The confirmation lists the hotel names before you pay anything, so you can check them yourself.
May to September for the Andes: dry mornings, cold nights, the most visitors at Machu Picchu. October and April are our own favorite months, with green terraces and smaller groups. December to March brings afternoon rain in Cusco and on the lake, while the coast has its summer with sun in Lima and Paracas. The Nazca flight runs all year, with morning fog delays from June to September.
Our sample Peru itinerary, day by day explains why the cities go in this order, and the best time to visit Peru by region settles the month. For the flight question, read how to get from Lima to Cusco.
Each place has its own page with altitude, how to get there and every package that includes it.

Hotels with breakfast, airport and station transfers, every entrance ticket named in the itinerary, the Machu Picchu ticket and round-trip train, the Consettur bus, licensed English-speaking guides on each tour, the lunches the day-by-day lists and the boat on Lake Titicaca. Not included: flights, dinners, insurance, tips and the Huayna Picchu add-on. The package page lists both columns item by item.
No. None of our packages include international flights, and the domestic flight from Lima to Cusco is not included either. We keep them out so the price you see is the price on the ground. We tell you the flight times that fit the itinerary, meet you at the Cusco airport and adjust the pickups if your flight changes.
Ten days. It covers Lima and the coast, Cusco with the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, and two nights on Lake Titicaca, with the altitude rising in order and one buffer day for Rainbow Mountain or rest. Seven days is the honest minimum for coast plus Machu Picchu. Fifteen days only if you want Arequipa and the Colca Canyon, which add long drives.
Both, with different tiers. Kids from about eight years old do the 6-day and 10-day packages well, and we book triple rooms or two doubles. Honeymoons tend to pick the Comfort Plus or Signature tier on the 7-day or 10-day package, which puts you in a colonial house hotel in Cusco and a lakefront room in Puno. Say which it is when you ask for the quote.
Less than on any other trip type, because the cities are ordered for it. Three days at sea level in Lima, then Cusco at 3,400 m (11,150 ft) with a slow first afternoon, then Machu Picchu lower at 2,430 m (7,970 ft), then Puno at about 3,830 m (12,560 ft) last. Most people have a headache on the first Cusco afternoon and feel normal by the second morning. Ask your doctor about altitude medication before you fly.
Yes. Swapping a day, adding nights or dropping the Nazca flight is a normal request and the planner reprices the package line by line. Adding a region that is not in the catalog, like the Amazon, becomes a custom trip, quoted the same way from the same hotels and guides. Tell us what to change in the quote form.
Send your dates and who is traveling. A planner on our team in Cusco replies with the package that makes sense, or a custom plan.
