Nazca Lines, Paracas and Huacachina: 2-Day Tour from Lima
The trip in one paragraph
This is the trip for travelers who want to see the Nazca Lines from the air and are happy to spend most of two days on the road to do it. You get the coast and the dunes on the first day, sleep in Nazca, fly over the lines the next morning and ride the bus back to Lima. If you would rather trade road hours for money, the version with the flight from Pisco sleeps in Paracas and gets you back to Lima by the afternoon.
Day one: sea lions and sand
Pickup is before 5 a.m. so you reach Paracas for the morning boat around the Ballestas Islands, about two hours among sea lions and seabirds. A pisco winery near Ica comes next, then the buggy and the dunes at Huacachina. In the late afternoon the van continues south to Nazca, about 2.5 hours more.
Day two: the lines from above
The Nazca Lines are hundreds of figures and straight lines scraped into the desert floor between about 500 BC and 500 AD, and you only understand them from above. The small plane banks left and right over each figure, the hummingbird, the monkey, the spider, so both sides of the cabin get a view. It is a bumpy flight. Eat a light breakfast, and look at the horizon between figures.
The honest cost
The ride home is a regular bus that leaves Nazca around 2 p.m. and reaches Lima near 11 p.m. Nine hours in a bus seat is the price of the Nazca airfield. We think it is worth it once, if the lines are high on your list.
Price
One price, US$307 per person, shared service, tour only. It covers the transport, the Ballestas boat, the buggy, the Nazca Lines flight and the bus back. The hotel night in Nazca is added to your quote. The airfield tax is paid in cash at Nazca.

Departures every day of the year. Pick your start date and send the free quote form. We confirm the flight slot and the seats within the day.
Book a week ahead in December to March and around Peruvian holidays, when flights and buses fill. Tell us your passport details early, because the flight operator needs them.
Day by day

Day1
Lima, Paracas, Ballestas Islands, Ica, Huacachina, Nazca
Night in Nazca, high point about 1,710 ft (520 m) on the dunes
Pickup between 4:40 and 5:00 a.m. for the drive south on the Panamericana, about 160 mi (260 km) to Paracas.
After a box breakfast at the pier, about two hours on the water past the Candelabro geoglyph and around the islands. The boat does not land.
A short visit and tasting at a pisco bodega, then free time for lunch, paid on your own.
Time by the lagoon and the buggy and sandboard run on the dunes.
About 2.5 hours south of Ica. Check in and dinner on your own in town.

Day2
Nazca airfield, Nazca Lines overflight, bus to Lima
Back in Lima near 11 p.m., the flight is the only time off the ground
After breakfast, transfer to the María Reiche airfield. Bring your passport: the operator checks it and weighs every passenger to balance the plane.
About 30 to 45 minutes in the air, depending on the operator's route. Each figure gets a turn to the left and one to the right. Morning fog sometimes delays takeoff, and the operator waits for it to clear.
A transfer to the bus terminal for the regular coach north, about nine hours with stops.
Arrival around 11:00 p.m. and transfer to your hotel.

Where you go
The route follows the Panamericana south from Lima to Paracas, Ica and Nazca, and the bus brings you back on the same highway.
Route: Lima · Paracas · Huacachina · Nazca.

Still have questions?
Everything we get asked about this package before people book.
Is the Nazca flight included?
Yes. The overflight from the Nazca airfield is part of this 2-day tour. What you pay on the spot is the airfield tax, PEN 37 (about US$12) per person in cash. Your Nazca hotel goes on the quote as a separate line.
Is the Nazca Lines flight safe?
Peru's transport ministry certifies the operators, and we use certified ones only. The planes are small and the turns are tight, which feels worse than it is. If you are a nervous flyer, see the lines from the roadside viewing tower instead, or skip this tour.
How long is the Nazca Lines flight?
Half an hour to 45 minutes airborne from the Nazca airfield, depending on the operator's route. Add an hour for check-in and the weigh-in before takeoff. Morning fog sometimes delays departures.
Can you see the Nazca Lines in a day from Lima?
Not comfortably by road. Nazca is about 280 mi (450 km) from Lima, around seven hours each way. That is why this tour sleeps in Nazca and flies in the morning, when the air is calmer.
What is the difference with the Pisco 2-day tour?
This one flies from the Nazca airfield and rides the bus back for about nine hours. The Pisco version sleeps in Paracas, flies a longer route from Pisco airport and is back in Lima by the afternoon. It costs more, from US$607.
Read before you go
- Things to Do in Lima: 1 or 2 Days Before CuscoGive Lima one full day before Cusco, two if you like to eat: the colonial center and the San Francisco catacombs, then the Miraflores cliffs and Barranco at sunset, with the Larco Museum and Pachacamac or a food walk on day two. Sleep in Miraflores or Barranco, at sea level, and fly up to Cusco rested.
- Nazca Lines Flight: From Lima, What You See, Is It SafeThe Nazca Lines flight is a 30-minute loop from the Nazca airfield or about 1 hour 40 minutes from Pisco over figures scraped into the desert between 500 BC and AD 500. Nazca is about 280 mi (450 km) from Lima, so it takes two days. The planes bank hard, airsickness is common and the accident record deserves a read before you book.
- Huacachina Oasis: What to Do and How to Get ThereHuacachina is a small desert oasis 5 km (3 mi) from Ica, about 300 km (186 mi) south of Lima. Go for dune buggies, sandboarding and the sunset over the dunes. A long day trip from Lima works, but one night, paired with Paracas and the Ballestas Islands, is better.
