The conch shells sound across the Plaza de Armas and the crowd goes quiet. It is midday on 24 June, the actor playing the Inca rides past on a litter carried on his bearers' shoulders, and the sun is hot enough on your face that you forget how hard the frost was at dawn. In a few hours the whole procession climbs to the stone walls of Sacsayhuamán for the last act.

Short answer: Yes, if you book early. June is dry season: Cusco gets about 1 rain day, sunny highs near 70°F (20.9°C) and frosty nights near 31°F (minus 0.8°C). Machu Picchu enters high season on 19 June, and Inti Raymi fills Cusco on 24 June. Lima is gray and cool. Book trains, tickets and hotels months ahead.

June is when Cusco throws its biggest party. The whole month is the city's jubilee, with parades in the Plaza de Armas almost every day, and it ends with Inti Raymi, the Festival of the Sun. The weather is the most reliable of the year in the Andes. The cost is that everyone else knows it too. For the rest of the year, read the best time to visit Peru, and for the citadel our guide to the best time to visit Machu Picchu.

Peru weather in June, region by region

June is deep dry season in the Andes and winter on the coast. The SENAMHI 1991 to 2020 climate normals in the table show almost no rain in Cusco and Puno, and nights below freezing in both.

Cusco and the Sacred Valley in June

Cusco averages a high of 70°F (20.9°C) and a low of 31°F (minus 0.8°C) in June, with 0.1 in (3.7 mm) of rain and about 1 wet day. Mornings start with frost on the grass in the valley. By noon you are in a T-shirt under a sun strong enough to burn you in twenty minutes. The air is dry too, so drink more water than you think you need.

Every day trip works: Rainbow Mountain, Humantay Lake, the Sacred Valley and the Q'eswachaka bridge. The trade-off is people at the popular viewpoints. Leave early and you are ahead of the vans.

Machu Picchu in June

Machu Picchu in June averages 72°F (22°C) by day and 50°F (10°C) at night, with 2.0 in (51 mm) of rain, the driest month in the SENAMHI normals. The daily limit is 4,500 visitors until 18 June, then 5,600 from 19 June until 2 November (as of the 2026 calendar, Ministerio de Cultura). The first half of June is the sweet spot, with dry weather and the low cap.

Book the entry ticket and the train two to three months ahead for June, and earlier for the days around Inti Raymi. Huayna Picchu sells out first. Our Machu Picchu tickets guide has the steps.

The Inca Trail in June

June is peak season on the Classic Inca Trail. The passes are clear, the campsites are dry and the nights at Pacaymayo drop below freezing, so your water bottle can have ice in it by morning. Permits for June often sell out months ahead, as our Inca Trail permits guide explains. If they are gone, the Salkantay trek needs no permit and is in its best season.

Lake Titicaca in June

Puno averages a high of 59°F (14.8°C) and a low of 31°F (minus 0.5°C) in June, with 0.1 in (3 mm) of rain. Days are sunny and the lake turns a deep blue. Nights are below freezing on average, though, and the homestays on Amantaní have no heating. Pack a warm hat and thermal layers for the night, and ask your host for extra blankets.

Lima and the coast in June

Lima in June averages 66°F (18.9°C) by day and 61°F (16°C) at night, under a low gray sky with occasional drizzle. Travelers who planned a beach day go home disappointed. Ica stays sunny at 79°F (26°C), so the desert is the bright part of the coast in June.

Festivals and holidays in June

Inti Raymi, 24 June, Cusco

Inti Raymi, the Inca Festival of the Sun, is staged every 24 June in three acts: the Qorikancha in the morning, the Plaza de Armas at midday and the esplanade of Sacsayhuamán in the afternoon, as Andina describes. In 2027, 24 June falls on a Thursday. The first two acts are free to watch if you find a spot early. Grandstand seats at Sacsayhuamán are sold online by Cusco's festival company and sold out for the 2026 edition (Infobae, June 2026). Read our Inti Raymi guide for tickets and timing.

The jubilee month in Cusco

June is Cusco's jubilee month. Schools, neighborhoods and associations parade in costume around the Plaza de Armas most days, with bands and dancers, building up to 24 June, which is also the Day of Cusco.

National holidays and Corpus Christi

7 June (Flag Day) and 29 June (Saints Peter and Paul) are national holidays. Corpus Christi, one of Cusco's biggest feasts, moves with Easter. It fell on 4 June in 2026, falls on 27 May in 2027 and on 15 June in 2028.

Crowds and prices in June

June is high season, and the last ten days are the busiest of the month. Cusco hotels raise prices for Inti Raymi week, and trains around 24 June sell out early. If you can, arrive in Cusco after 25 June or leave before 20 June, and plan Machu Picchu away from the festival days.

What to pack for Peru in June

  • A down jacket, hat and gloves for nights below freezing in Cusco and Puno.
  • Thermal base layers for homestays and treks.
  • High-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses and a wide-brim hat.
  • Lip balm and moisturizer for the dry air.
  • A light layer for gray Lima.

The full list is in our Peru packing list.

Questions people ask

Is June a good time to visit Peru?

Yes, for the weather. June is dry season in the Andes, with about 1 rain day in Cusco, sunny highs near 70°F (20.9°C) and frosty nights. Inti Raymi on 24 June is the biggest festival of the year. It is also high season, so book trains, Machu Picchu tickets and hotels two to three months ahead.

Is Machu Picchu crowded in June?

It gets busier as the month goes on. The daily limit is 4,500 visitors until 18 June and 5,600 from 19 June (as of the 2026 calendar). The days around Inti Raymi are the most crowded. For the best balance, go in the first half of June and book a morning slot early.

When is Inti Raymi?

Every 24 June in Cusco. The festival runs in three acts: the Qorikancha in the morning, the Plaza de Armas at midday and Sacsayhuamán in the afternoon. The first two are free to watch. Grandstand seats at Sacsayhuamán are sold online and sold out for the 2026 edition.

How cold is Cusco in June?

Cold at night, warm at noon. SENAMHI normals for the Cusco valley give a June low of 31°F (minus 0.8°C) and a high of 70°F (20.9°C). Many hotels in colonial buildings have weak heating, so ask before you book and pack a warm layer for the room.
